GT4 1450RS Wing Overview:

The DBJ 1450RS carbon fiber wing for the Cayman GT4 takes our 1450mm wings to the next level! Roughly the same footprint as the OEM wing but with a longer chord length, we've designed this wing with CFD to bring out maximum performance while maintaining an OEM-like package.

We made a couple of tweaks to further improve the performance on a wing of this size to bridge the gap to our largest offering. There are 3 main design features to the 1450RS wing:

1) The swan neck mount

2) 3D airfoil design optimization

3) Full carbon fiber mounting points

The 1450RS wing has a swan neck style design! Swan necks attach to the wing on the top surface and thus eliminate flow disruptions to the bottom surface of the wing. With a 100% smooth bottom, air flow stays attached longer in more situations avoiding premature flow separation. The means less drag and lower pressure for more surface area on the wing. The final result is more efficient downforce!

We've also added a 3D twisting design element to the wing profile to match the changing airflow as it comes over the roof of the car. This has been optimized to bring out more downforce than otherwise could be created with a fixed wing profile.

Full carbon fiber mounting points means less weight and more strength! We have updated the latest wings to include carbon fiber mounting points so the wing is 100% dry carbon fiber aside from the inserts to hold the endplates to the mail airfoil.

The positioning of the wing has been set to lie within the rear bumper footprint. This allows for traffic compliance in countries that do not allow overhanging wings and also allows you to compete with this wing in racing classes that limit the wing from extending over the bumper rear. Detailed wing risers raise the wing up about 2" from the OEM height and do not extend above the roof of the car. The wing can be set to 8 different angles of attack(1-8 degrees) allowing easy aerodynamic balance adjustments.

You can expect 60-200% increase in downforce over the stock wing dependent on the set angle of attack. The swan neck design allows higher angles of attack when compared to the traditional mounting design. This means that more downforce can be achieved at higher angles. When set to 5 degrees, this wing produces 106lbs of downforce at only 80mph while only adding 20lbs of drag. At 120mph this is 238lbs of downforce!

The wing risers are also designed to fit our 1600mm wing opening up more options for future upgrades.

Construction:

The wing is made from 2mm thick dry carbon fiber ensuring the best quality of strength and stiffness per pound. Anodized in matte black, the aluminum wing risers feature chamfered edges and mount directly into the factory GT4 wing mount locations. The endplates are also constructed from 3mm thick carbon fiber and have counter sunk screws to give a clean flush look.

    Worth every penny

I always wished they had made an RS version of the 981 GT4. It has been my goal to slowly customize my own variant. This wing was the perfect replacement for the stock wing to add that aggressive flare. I get nothing but compliments and my rear view mirror visibility has improved. This thing is top quality and the carbon weave is beautiful. Install was straight forward and Jacob is incredibly responsive to emails.

    3D Scanning & Prototyping

Each DBJ product goes through several rigorous design phases. Starting from scratch, we collect high accuracy scanned data from cars to ensure great fitment. Data is then processed and models and designs are created using CAD software. Prototyping using 3D rapid prototyping printers are used to confirm scans and fitment. Sometimes we are able to print out entirely functional parts for road and track testing.

    Computational Fluid Dynamics

Initial designs are tested using both finite element analysis (FEA) and computation fluid dynamics (CFD). Both these methods require several iterations to ensure proper performance and optimization of DBJ parts.

    Real world testing

Finally once the design is completed, we test our prototypes on the street and track! Thoroughly test driving our products helps ensure that our customers have nothing but the best experiences when it comes to installation and performance results.
